In downtown Juarez, next to the cathedral this mission was founded in 1659. Guadalupe Mission is the mother of the El Paso Valley Missions. It provided sanctuary to the tired travelers along the Camino Real. This mission was a critical stop for food and rest. It is the oldest building in the southwest. |
Next to the Bridge of the Americas/Cordova Bridge, the museum features the "Cultures of the North" room with authentic artifacts from pre-Columbian Casa Grandes and a gallery with paintings and sculptures from well-known local and international artists. Admission is Free. |
The Juárez Museum of Art, National Institute of Fine Arts, features art from different periods, by local and internationally known artists. |
If you miss the Museum of History while in Juarez, Mexico you will be much the poorer for skipping it.
You might wish to read the information on the history of the building itself on the Historical Walking Tour. It was here that the treaties ending the Mexican Revolution were signed. Free admission |
Columbus is a quaint little town with a special place in U.S. history. It was here in 1916 that Pancho Villa staged and attack on U.S. soil that left 18 people dead. The town's history is commemorated in two small museums - one in the old train depot and the other at Pancho Villa State Park. Three miles south of Columbus is Palomas, Mexico. Palomas is a sleepy little Mexican village that's the perfect way to experience Old Mexico. The highlight is a visit to The Pink Store where you'll find high-quality handcrafted, one-of-a-kind merchandise from all over Mexico. The restaurant serves Mexican food that alone is worth the drive from El Paso. Pancho Villa State Park is 96 miles from El Paso to Palomas, and the drive can take just under two hours. |
